Send Love Ahead

This first is a technique I learned in a spiritual study group. I’ve used it many times, to my still-surprised delight, and have written about it at some length (Sterne, 2013a). Here are the main steps:

Before your big talk, sit quietly alone.

Close your eyes and take some slow, deep breaths.

If you’ve been resisting the situation or you’re afraid (“I wish I didn’t have to do this!”), admit it to yourself. Feel the dismay or fear.
